End of August 2022, Pilobolus returned to the KSA for the 3rd time in its history. When it made its first appearance there in 2018, it was the very first international dance company ever guesting in Saudi Arabia with its performances being the first of any kind with a male and female cast performing on a Saudi stage together.
In its first co-operation with Rieder Promotions, Pilobolus showcased six performances of “Shadowland” at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran between 24 and 27 August 2022. The story traces the surreal experiences of a young girl’s sensational world as she comes of age. All performances were very well-attended, the family audiences were enthralled by the artists’ metamorphosis into elephants, dogs, flowers and much more within only a few seconds. Interweaving the last sequence with one of the most popular Arabian songs earned the dancers standing ovations.
The tour was a huge success and the dancers were happy to be back again in the KSA. They especially enjoyed the great hospitality, the perfect technical realisation onstage as well as the brilliant team on- and offstage.
