After many years of fruitful cooperation with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra in its homeland, the Rieder team was eager to introduce this remarkable ensemble to Austrian audiences. Upon invitation of artistic director Hans-Joachim Frey, Russian Maestro Dmitri Kitayenko took the lead in its first guest concert at the Bruckner Festival Linz. Sergey Prokoviev‘s Symphony No. 1 in D major was followed by Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a theme by Paganini with world renowned Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder. After the interval, the musicians played the Symphony No. 10 in E minor, op. 93 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
Founded in 2007, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra was a personal initiative of H.H. Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. In its first years, it was greatly supported by Maestro Lorin Maazel who helped highten international awareness during a large number of tours to Europa and the US. Artistic partnerships with Gerd Albrecht, Marc Minkowski, Dmitri Kitayenko or first-class singers like Roberto Alagna and Angela Gheorghiu further contributed to its artistic development.
